Tree planting at Pitt Lane, Stapleford

On a very cold and frosty morning 4 Volunteers added 20 of their home grown trees to this area that we planted in Autumn/Winter 22/23. We worried that the ground was going to be too hard but actually the hardest part was getting the trees out of the pots, they were completely frozen into the pots and took a good deal of rolling and stamping to free them.

It wasn’t a day to hang around any longer than necessary but one last job was necessary, we needed to protect as many saplings as possible with tree guards. In the previous year in this location our saplings suffered a severe nibbling by rabbits during a period of snow.

As we were doing this we received a surprise helping hand from MP Darren Henry and his family who stopped by to help.
